Counselor Certification

The Florida Department of Education certifies school counselors. Employment opportunities are constantly changing, so you are encouraged to call the district contact person where you may wish to work. Districts have different hiring conditions and contract length may vary from 10-12 months with varying salaries.

General School District Information
The state of Florida has 67 school districts; one for each of the 67 counties in Florida. These school districts vary in size from Miami-Dade County with a student population of 373,335 to Lafayette County with a student population of 1,049. Florida offers a wonderful opportunity for school counselors to work in large urban districts or smaller rural districts.
